For my last Community Manager  blog posting of 2016, I thought I would take a look back at some of our achievements during the last year.

In September we held a very successful event on Factories of the Future where next?  This event took place at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry and the seminar room was completely full.   Feedback after the event included comments such as:

"This was my first IET event and I must say, I am impressed! I enjoyed most of the speakers, the food and the facilities were fantastic and the overall experience was outstanding! Cant wait for the next event Thank you"

"The first IET event I have attended, very impressed with the professional organisation, both pre-event and on the day. Thanks"

"well-structured event supported by good range of knowledgeable speakers"

We took the decision not to film this event, but produced a techbite instead which you can download if you've missed it.

In October we welcomed our new Chairman, Simon Hart, who took over from Stewart Taylor who had been at the helm for the past three years.  Simon works for Yasa Motors and is one of our very active volunteers.   Read more about Simon

Applications for the PhD Award seem to get better and better each year and this year was no different, with the judges having a very difficult job to separate the winner and the second placed candidate.   However, they finally agreed and the winner was announced in late November - so well done to Giordano Scarciotti - very well deserved. Read more about Giordano   Look out for details of our 2017 competition in the first quarter of next year.

This year, we have also seen activity in Malaysia with a joint evet  in September with the local network there - led by our exec team member Chang Yew Cheong - read more about the event

Our biggest event of the year was Big Data Analytics for Smart Power Networks.   The event was organised in conjunction with colleagues at Brunel University and took place on 8 November at IET London: Savoy Place.  Once again, the room was full and we had a stellar list of speakers. Presentations from most of the speakers are available to view on IET.tv  and more information is  in our blog posting During the day there was lots of Twitter activity and you can read a selection of these on our storify page

I am very much looking forward to 2017 and I hope to see you at one of our events.   Please do get in touch - we love to hear from you.  Feedback is incredibly valuable when we plan our future activities, but more than that we would like our community area to be up to date and vibrant - you can help us achieve that.

Best wishes to you all
