Giordano Scarciotti received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Automation Engineering from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy, in 2010 and 2012, respectively. In 2012 he joined the Control and Power Group, Imperial College London, UK, where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in 2016, under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Astolfi. 


He is currently a Junior Research Fellow in the Control and Power Group. His research interests are focused on blending control theory and power applications, with particular attention to problems of model reduction, optimal control and wireless power transfer systems.


During his PhD he has worked on a variety of topics regarding the approximation, analysis and control of large-scale systems. Among his works there are the study of the "liminf" convergence for interconnected systems, the introduction of a discontinuous phasor transform for the analysis of power inverters and the formulation of data-driven algorithms for model reduction.


Giordano says: "I am delighted and honoured to receive the 2016 IET Control & Automation Ph.D. Award. During my Ph.D. studies I always worked to connect theoretical results with applications. I found that many control theoretical results can benefit other research fields, such as the ones of power systems and power electronics. This award is an incentive to continue pursuing a research direction in which theory and practice have equal importance."
