Working in Robotics and Mechatronics? Introduce yourself!

We'd love to hear more about you and why you've joined the community so here's the place to say hello and tell us a little bit more about yourself.

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • What made you join the Robotics and Mechatronics network?

  • What are you hoping to get from the R&M community?

  • What aspect of robotics do you find the most exciting?
  • As requested, here are a few examples of the robotics projects I have done.

This large 12-DOF robot was developed to research Quadruped walking and clambering.

This snake robot was developed for the exploration of physically constrained environments such as collapsed buildings where a wheeled or legged robot would get tangled or stuck.

  • Hello all, I'm Gerry Kelly. I previously worked in datacomms and software engineering up to senior management level, and now work for Learnit Educational Solutions, a STEM education company which partners with the IET to deliver FIRST LEGO League in Ireland.

I partner with teachers and community leaders to facilitate participation in FIRST LEGO League Challenge for 11- to 16-year-olds in school and community groups. FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a robotics-based life skills competition which, among other things, involves designing and programming autonomous LEGO robots to tackle a series of themed missions against the clock. The theme for the 2022-23 season is SUPERPOWERED and will focus on the generation, storage, distribution and consumption of energy.

My reason for joining the network is to develop our connections with industry, so that we can give the young people we engage with insights into education and career paths that build on their experiences in FIRST LEGO League.

  • Thanks for the intro Gerry.

Lego league is a fantastic initiative to help encourage STEM uptake in uni's and solve some of our recruitment issues in tech and manu sectors.

looking forward to seeing some engagement from the network.
