Turbo machinery Remote Monitoring & Diagnostic – Oil & Gas Application

By Ir. Amir Farid Abdul Majid PEng MIET.

GE Oil & Gas

Turbo machinery and peripheral equipment for oil and gas applications must operate within specified parameters in order to achieve desired performance, production targets and cost control. Traditional monitoring methods require on-site personnel and analysis, with periodic OEM engineering support.

Remote Monitoring & Diagnostic (RM&D) service offers the superior alternative of continuous monitoring by expert engineers with significantly enhanced response times. Diagnostics engineers evaluates actual and target statistics, as well as interrelationships between components, to continuously monitor the performance and safety parameters. This method of monitoring is possible with the advancement of technology in Industrial network, advance sensors and analytic rule capability.

This talk provide an overview on the importance of Remote monitoring and Diagnostic (RM&D) for Turbo Machinery equipment mainly for Oil & Gas Application which will cover the basic operation in monitoring turbo machinery from remote, data acquisition flow from site/field until the application of diagnostic/analytic rule and then translated into machine optimization. This talk was also included the introduction on available advance sensor technology that enhances the machine diagnostic capability.

The speaker also adressed the important of future analytic and predictivity for major industry. Few initiatives were currently led by major company such as GE and Cisco to obtain the benefit from the Big DATA. Initative such as Internet of thing (IoT) and #industrialinternet will ensure the trend of technology is aligning with future market demand.
