Just recently Aravind Kilaru and S. Purushothaman, volunteers on the Satellite Systems & Applications Executive team and Techical Advisory Panel respectively, organised the TPN’s inaugural event in India, with the assistance of the IET Bangalore Local Network and the India office.

 The 1st technical talk on “Satellite Technology - Trends, Developments and Prospects” attracted an audience of 38 members/non-members, consisting of a mix of students, academics and industry aligned to the Satellite sector.


The invited speakers introduced the brief history of Indian Space program and the private industry contribution to the Indian space program and the range of products developed under Make in India initiative by Govt of India.


One of the invited speakers Shri. S Hiriyanna, Group Head, GEOSAT Programme, ISRO presented the brief journey of Indian Space Program and how it overcame the obstacles and developed in-house products for its missions. He also extended an invitation to the IET Satellite TPN to coordinate a visit to the ISRO Compact Antenna Test Facility (CATF) in Bangalore.

The other speaker Shri. D Krishna Gopal, General Manager (Systems), Alpha Design Technologies Ltd  presented its ongoing contribution to the Indian Space program and the range of products they are developing for ISRO like satellite receivers, GPS modules, sub systems, VSATs and HUB Stations, as well as its contribution in assembling navigation satellites for future launches.


The invited talks were well received by the audience. The IET Satellite TPN is planning a visit to ISRO Compact Antenna Test Facility (CATF) as a next event in Bangalore. The TPN are also planning a career related event in Chennai to encourage & guide students about to graduate, as well as graduates in the field of space sector and its opportunities.
