As we settle in to the 2016/17 session I felt it would be good opportunity for me to introduce myself. We have recently had a bit of a portfolio shuffle here at our Stevenage office and I am now the Community Manager for the Robotics and Mechatronics TPN.

To get to know the Robotics network I recently joined their November committee meeting and was very excited by some of the upcoming activities the network has planned. Firstly in February we will be holding an evening lecture on the topic of Robot Ethics: Advances and Challenges in Medical RoboticsProfessor Guang-Zhong Yang from Imperial College and Dr Catherine Easton from Lancaster University will discuss aspects of state of the art and future research directions in medical robotics as well as the ethical concerns involved when cognitively and mentally merging these devices with the human user. I’m sure you’ll agree it sounds like a fascinating topic so please make sure to register your place!

A few weeks later, on 27 April, we will be holding another evening lecture on Surgical Robots where experts in the field will explore the ways in which surgical robots have progressed to become the robust systems that are revolutionising healthcare today.  More information will be coming soon so please keep checking back for updates!

I’m also very pleased to confirm that following on from the success of last year’s event we will once again be working with UK-RAS during the UK Robotics Week. Discussions are currently underway but more information will be announced as soon as the details are finalised.

I hope to see you at one of our events soon!
