The IET Railway Technical Network are pleased to announce that Martin Halligan, Technical Lead for Railway Integration in the Rail Control Systems team at SNC-Lavalin Atkins  has been nominated Vice Chair. Martin has been working with the Young Professional Network since 2018

 Martin’s role as Vice Chair will be focused in identifying and presenting hot topics for discussion, drive engagement, input into TN plan and budget for the year as well as deputising for the IET Railway Chair.


The IET Railway TN supports activities that engage with technical professionals in both industry and academia in all areas of the Railway Sector, through their online community and through platforms and Online/F2F events.  They also engage and develop the community through direction action, generating ideas for and leading the creation of events, creating and disseminating information around Railway topics.


Amongst its many activities like conferences, seminars and webinars the network has supported a number of initiatives including the IET Codes and Guidance team and the IET Strategic Engagement and Partnerships

Martin James Halligan M.Eng (hons) CEng AMIRSE MIET

Martin is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with more than 7 years’ experience in Railway Systems Engineering, with a particular focus within the telecoms and signalling disciplines. He is currently working at SNC-Lavalin Atkins as the Technical Lead for Railway Integration in the Rail Control Systems team. In this role he is expanding on the Systems Integration capability within the business, leading a team and managing initiatives to support this development.


Martin has experience in rail projects worldwide, supping many remotely and also spending a year in Canada supporting the integration and safety assurance works of the Ottawa Confederation Line. Currently Martin is providing Interface Management and Systems Integration Consultancy to HS2. In addition to this, he is also working alongside other Professional Engineering Institutions in a collaborative series fo events under the banner of Young Rail Tours.


Prior to this position, Martin has been the Young Professionals Chair of the Railway Technical Network.
