I’m looking forward to the Railway Lecture and Dinner on 30 November, which will be back this year, for the first time since the refurbishment at Savoy Place.

We’ll also be showcasing the winning poster from our Best Posters competition at the Railway Lecture and Dinner and I’m delighted to announce that the winner is Deji Balogun.  Deji is a graduate Communications and Control Engineer at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff with a background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He studied at the University of Bradford and at the University of Hull where he further developed on his passion for technology and innovation. He is very excited to be part of an industry that is continuously growing with much more improvements to be made and he aspires to forge the tracks connecting the rail industry to the future – making rail the number one choice of modal transportation. You can view Deji’s prize winning poster here

If you’re not able to make the lecture and would like to pose a question for Adrian, then please take the opportunity to post something here in our discussion forum.

I mentioned in my last blog that Dr Martyn Chymera, has  now taken over the role of Chairman of the Executive TPN and Martyn has asked me to include this message to all Railway community members.

“Welcome to the Railway Network community. The IET Railway network consists of a rich mix of engineers and other professionals from different disciplines involved in the railway industry. The railway network offers a range of opportunities for railway engineers to share knowledge and to network. We have a set of railway courses, covering Electric Traction, Electrification Infrastructure Systems and Signalling and Control. The railway network organises hot topic lectures and seminars on a variety of subjects. We arrange technical visits, allowing engineers to get a unique insight into different areas of the industry. The Railway Annual lecture and dinner provides an opportunity to both share knowledge and network.

The Railway Network has a strong Young Professionals section, which organises events specifically for YPs to network and share knowledge. The YPs run a poster competition, offering an opportunity for Young Professionals in the rail industry to share their work.”

Planning for events to follow the Railway Lecture/Dinner are going well and we’ve now confirmed arrangements for our ‘Electrification of the NW line’ evening seminar, joint with the IMechE, up in Crewe on 11 April 2017 and are finalising dates for some of our other visits and lecture programme.  So far we’re working on visits to Chiltern Railways depot at Aylesbury, the Pamela Laboratory and a presentation on ‘Cooling the Tube’ timed appropriately for June 2017.

Finally, I thought I’d end this blog with a reminder of my colleague Dermot Dooher’ s comic take on London Underground station songs which you can view here  and don’t forget to contribute any others that you can think of.
