This year marks the 50th anniversary of IBC.  The first day's keynote was on the Future of Broadcasting, and this was followed by a fascinating set of presentations in the area of Direct to Consumer.  However the topic that really grabbed my attention was eSports, something that I for one really didn't know anything much about until yesterday.  It has a huge following, with about 200m players and 200m followers giving a total audience reach of 400m worldwide, with some contests now offering prize money of as much as $10m for the winning team (and $4m for the runners-up).  It has become a professional occupation for the teams of (young) gamers, with daily practice and training sessions, coaches and trainers working with them and generally the same sort of paraphernalia as is seen for major traditional sports such as tennis or golf.  Watch this space!
