Join us at The 5th Future of Medicine - The Role of Doctors in 2029 and hear Dr Miguel Hernandez-Silveira from MF Technology Ltd.

MF Technology Ltd specialises in consultancy services for research and development of digital healthcare platforms involving wearable sensors, cloud computing and machine learning algorithms for healthcare and wellness applications. Today, MF Technology provides services to few healthcare and wellness start-up companies which emerged from top universities such as Imperial College of London and The University of Surrey.Miguel Hernandez-Silveira was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1970. He obtained his Computer Science and Electronics Engineering degree from the Universidad Fermin Toro, Venezuela, in 1996. Then, he joined one of the most prestigious Venezuelan universities situated in the Andes region (UNET) in 1998, where he held lecturer and researcher positions until 2003. He was a member, a cofounder, and the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Research Group of this institution. During his time in UNET, Miguel participated in the design and development of different medical devices and technologies for healthcare monitoring involving biomedical circuits, systems, and algorithms. He also holds a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Surrey (Guildford, UK), where he worked in the development of electrode technologies for functional electrical stimulation to assist the gait of patients with upper motor neuron impairments.

In 2008, Miguel joined Sensium Healthcare, where his main role was in the development and optimization of DSP and machine learning vital-signs algorithms for ultra-low power digital patch – a wireless device for continuous healthcare monitoring. Miguel fulfilled key positions in the company, being the last Director of Biomedical Technology and Data Analytics; where he actively participated and coordinated the ongoing development of new intelligent algorithms for wireless healthcare monitoring and analytics for optimization of the system during its evaluation and deployment in hospital.

After leaving Sensium Ltd in 2017, he funded MF Technology Ltd – a company specialised in consultancy services for research and development of digital healthcare platforms involving wearable sensors, cloud computing and machine learning algorithms for healthcare and wellness applications. Today, MF Technology provides services to few healthcare and wellness start-up companies which emerged from top universities such as Imperial College of London and The University of Surrey.

Besides his responsibilities at MF Technology, Miguel is also Director of Research in Atlantic Therapeutics Ltd – an international company with headquarters in Ireland, advocated to the development of products based on surface neuro-muscular stimulation for the treatment of urinary incontinence. His main role is to conduct research in new electrical stimulation technologies (from electrodes design to development of intelligent algorithms and predictive analytics to improve the therapy efficient, comfort and customers’ satisfaction).

Finally, continues making contributions to academia as Visiting Researcher and Lecturer at Imperial College of London (Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department) and the University of Surrey (Centre for Biomedical Engineering). His main interests are development of smart algorithms for biomedical sensors, and healthcare predictive analytics using machine learning techniques. He is the author of several publications in the field, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books and major conference proceedings.
