What Is Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical engineers apply engineering principles and materials technology to biology and medicine with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of healthcare. This can be seen throughout healthcare, from diagnosis and analysis to treatment and recovery.

These engineers research, design and develop medical products such as:
  • prosthetics
  • robotic surgical devices
  • wearable tech
  • implantable medical devices
  • equipment for clients with special needs in a rehabilitation setting
  • stem cell engineering
  • 3-D printing of biological organs
