In conjunction with IET C&A (Control and Automation) TPN, IET Malaysia Local Network and Center for System Engineering Studies (CSES), Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Malaysia organized the “Automation and Control Engineering Innovation Competition (ACEiC2017)” on 27 July 2017 at Tuanku Abdul Halim Sultan Mu’adzam Shah, Engineering Complex Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam Selangor. Ten teams from Universiti Teknologi MARA, International Islamic University Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Petronas took part in this ACEiC2017 competition. There are ten teams competing under seven different categories, which are Health, Instrumentation, PID, Environmental, Agriculture, Forecasting and Robotic.
UITM as the bigger university in Malaysia, and with this event hope to establish the relationship between IET with the local university, to raise youth scientists and engineers, to promote the innovation for the Control and Automation between academic and industry in this region. This event provided a platform for sharing the results of creative thinking and innovation product creating from the idea research and development of science and engineering students in the area of automation and control. With the success of organize this competition, we hope can promote the local university research in the area of Control and Automation to the international level.
The competition start at the 9.00am in the morning and the opening ceremony of ACEiC2017 was launched by the Dean of FKE, Prof. Dr. Mohd Nasir Taib and he spent his time visiting the participants booths and understanding the students presented projects.
During the pitching sessions, all projects were evaluated by the invited judges from the industry and they have vast experiences in control and automation. During the judging section, participants are required to present the short presentation to the panel of judges. And judges will ask the technical question related to the industrial application aspect. End of judging session, panel judges need to conclude the winner of the pitching sessions based on the predefine criteria. Ir. Amir Farid Abdul Majid also the C&A TPN TAP (Technical Advisory Panel) members represent IET as one of judge from the judging panel.
The event closing ceremony took place at 2pm, and the guests of the closing ceremony were Vice Chairman of IET Malaysia Local Network Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Leong Wai Yie; Vice Honorary Secretary of IET Malaysia Local Network Ir. Amir Farid Abdul Majid; IET C&A TPN Ir. Chang Yew Cheong; Head Department of Centre for System Engineering Studies Dr. Juliana Johari, Head of Quality Dr. Zuhani Ismail Khan and Coordinator Strategic Planning Associate Professor Datin Dr. Wahidah Mansor. Event Organising Chair Dr. Mahanijah Md Kamal giving the closing remark and follow by IET Malaysia Local Network Vice Chair Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Leong Wai Yie speech, she highlight that the success organised of the ACEiC2017 and thank to all working committee hardwork to ensure the event are running in smooth. She hope this event can be continued in future and encourage more teams to participant to this event.
The prize presentation are have before the end of the event. The first prize winner received cash money of five hundred ringgit, a medal and certificate and IET special award received cash money of hundred fifty ringgit with medal and certificate. The first prize and IET Special award are awarded to FKE, UiTM Shah Alam with titled “Aluminium Staging Water Filter (ASWF): A new innovation for water filtering system”.
