Have you ever wondered about the volunteers who work behind the scenes putting our programme of activities together?    The current exec team comprises 11 members from diverse backgrounds, both industry and academia, and together with staff they work extremely hard coming up with ideas for our activity programme and answering myriad queries.


So, I thought it would be interesting to showcase our volunteers directly  and first up is Simon Hart our Chairman:

Dr Simon Hart, Chair of the Control & Automation TPN, is passionate about creating networks where engineers can discuss, learn and drive technology forward.  He is a former IET Trustee and is also currently the Chair and a Trustee of IET Connect, the IET benevolent fund.  Based in  mid-Wales, Oxfordshire and London he enjoys organising events and working as a STEM Ambassador.


Simon is General Manager for YASA, an Oxford University spin-out, that design and manufacture high performance electric motors and power controllers for the automotive and other markets. He has over 20 years of experience developing leading edge power control electronics and software.  Previously he was Engineering Manager at Emerson - Control Techniques Drives where he had also been the Principal Firmware/Control Engineer.  Simon has a MEng and PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering both from the University of Surrey

 



Next is Steven Carter who has been on the exec team for a couple of years now.


Steven is a Manufacturing System Specialist - SMART Factories for Rolls-Royce Plc within central global manufacturing operations.  He has over 19 years’ experience as a technical specialist of delivering integrated automation-manufacturing systems and developing manufacturing processes, within the Aerospace & Automotive industrial sectors.  Having worked for an array of global blue chip companies either directly; Michelin Tyre PLC, Rolls-Royce Plc or a system provider within a global turnkey automation systems integrator COMAU (Fiat S.p.A group).  He holds a B Eng (Hons) in Manufacturing Systems Engineering for the University of Coventry and  is a professional accredited engineer with the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) and is also a Technical Panel Member on the IET Controls & Automation Technical Professional Network Exec Technical Panel Team, along with being STEM ambassador.

Within his current role within Rolls-Royce Plc in the last 6 years he has focus has been within automation, controls, design & realisation of automated new facilities with integrated IT systems enabled manufacturing systems.  As a manufacturing systems technical specialist he now focuses on defining company central “SMART” Digital Manufacturing strategies (Industry 4.0) & standards along within working with the AxRC network and supplier partners.  He also recently joined a BSI ‘Digital Manufacturing’ work group developing industrial standards part Uk Government Industrial strategy activities.
