With Halloween coming up, I thought I’d take a look into how people are using IoT in their Halloween celebrations.

There are quite a few articles on this subject to help you make the most out of IoT this October, including one from CB online on creating a haunted house and another from IoT Evolution World on spooking up your home.

Another idea I liked was creating a ghost drone – I found a photo of one below. I don’t know who created it, but it is pretty creepy!

Why not go a step further, like this person and create a flying witch using a drone?

Spooky music and a good old fog machine are important parts of a Halloween haunted house or party; I really liked the idea of hiding a Google Home somewhere and employing it to make creepy sounds to scare people!

Windstream have put together a great infographic on what they think Halloween will be like in the future (click to see in detail):

I’d love to see any IoT inspired Halloween ideas you’re using (or have used) this year – let me know in the comments!

  • Agree @Kathryn Bain it could definitely make Halloween safer for kids and more enjoyable for everyone else!
  • I'm in the "switch off the lights and pretend you're not home" camp when it comes to Halloween, but think an app would be a friendly idea for supportive people.  It could also be modified for houses with awesome Christmas lights as I know that some families like to drive (or walk) around the neighbourhood and look at the lights on other houses.
  • I love that idea  ‍@Elizabeth Morgan!! Like a Pokemon Go for Halloween!
  • It's not something I'll be doing, but wouldn't it be cool if you had some sort of augmented reality app for Halloween? In the infographic there's an idea for apps which show the houses taking part in trick or treating and I think it would be great if participants could choose something scary to 'put outside' their house. Or to do a ghost hunt or something like that; could work really well for the ghost tours etc.
  • haha Joanne Longton. The witch on a drone, made me think it would work for a certain jolly man in red :)
