  • Mike Knowles hosted an afternoon seminar in February at the University of Sunderland to discuss Telematics Research.

  • John Walker organised a debate on Peak Car Usage which was co-located at Traffex 2015 and facilitated by the ITS UK.  We also took the opportunity to film a number of demonstrations and short videos throughout the day, with input from exhibitors on a number of pertinent questions relating to the future of transport, some of which were controversial i.e. Is the government deterring car Ownership? Cars of the Future - how is the car marketing changing? Are driverless cars  the future?  What is the future of Public Transport?  You can view the demos and videos via this blog link

  • The Network joined up with other Transport TPNs on an evening seminar entitled Sacred Cows which looked at a number of safety related transport issues click here to watch the presentations from this event.

  •  Linking up with the ITSUK Smart Environment Interest Group for their conference on ITS Successes in Addressing Environmental Issues in November.  The presentations were filmed and will be uploaded soon.  Stephen Hanley was awarded the ARTS prize for the best paper at the conference.

Looking to the first half of 2016, the volunteers are planning to:

  • Link up with the IET Standards team to disseminate an EV Primer document that they’ve been working on together, probably via a breakfast style technical briefing.  More details to follow in due course.

  • An evening seminar on Electrification in Motorsport – keep an eye for the marketing emails as this looks to be a popular event.

  • Supporting the 2016 Moto E European Racing series.

  • Working with Manchester Transport Technical Group and University of Manchester on an 'Innovations in Transport' seminar.

  • Linking up with the ITSUK on a 'Behavioural Psychology in Transport' event.

The committee were also pleased to see that during 2015, Professor Phil Blythe a former member of the ARTS Executive Team  was named as the Governments' new Chief Scientific Advisor for Transport.

On behalf of the ARTS TPN I would like to wish you all the best for the New Year and hope that you will continue to give your support to the volunteers who dedicate their time in organising this activities by coming along to an event or visit in 2016 or watching some of the content they’ve recorded from events etc. If you have any suggestions for future events/activities please contact me or add comments to this blog.
