If you’re looking to visit or use the IET Library, here’s a few frequently asked questions the Library team often answer…Where can I find the IET Library?

The IET Library is based in the Knowledge Centre on the second floor of the IET’s building at Savoy Place, London, UK.

When is the Library open?

The Knowledge Centre is open from 9:00 am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

Who can visit the Library?

The Library collections are open to members of the IET and the general public

Can I borrow books from the Library?

All members of the IET can borrow books from the library. Members living in the UK can borrow up to ten books at a time and non-UK members can borrow up to three books. Non members can read books in the reading room but are not permitted to remove them from the Library.

I live too far away to visit Savoy Place in London. Can I still borrow books from the Library?

We offer a free postal service (IET members only) for those who are unable to visit the reading room. Postage costs to return the books will however, need to be paid for by the borrower.

Which books do you have available?

Search the IET Library catalogue online and select the ‘request’ button once you’ve found what you need. The Librarian will be in touch to inform you of availability, if they’re ready for collection or to arrange delivery if they are being posted to you.

How long can I borrow books for?

We loan books out for four weeks at a time but you can extend the loan if someone else hasn’t requested them. After five renewals the Librarians will need to see the book back in the Library reading room but you can continue to borrow it afterwards.

Can I renew my book loan online?

You can renew your book loan via the online Library Service

How can I contact the library?

You can contact the library via telephone on +44 (0) 207 344 5461 or email libdesk@theiet.org

If you're planning to visit us to look at or read specific resources, please let us know in advance by telephone or email as some materials are stored offsite and will need to be brought to the Knowledge Centre for your visit.
