The Annual regional IMechE dinner was once again held at the Cutlers Hall in Sheffield on the 20th April 2018.

Based on the close collaboration between the local IET & IMechE, John Lawrence and I from the IET SYLN were once again invited as their guests for the evening.

Since its inception, the dinner has been a huge success with around 200 guests attending through either regional Businesses or Academia sponsored tables.

Keynote speakers at the dinner this year were the current IMechE president Carolyn Griffiths, the Master Cutler Kenneth Cooke and their present Regional chairman Alan Bratton.

The Master of ceremonies for the evening was Denis Healy the IMechE Regional Business Development Manager.

The whole event was once again organised by Nicky Baxter the regional IMechE Administration Manager who puts in a tremendous effort eack year to pull the event together.

During her speech, president Carolyn Griffiths mentioned the recent John Uff report and the possbilites of the joining up of the IMechE with the IET & ICE to form one much stronger influential Engineering Institution. Its therefore pleasing to note that our efforts over the past 5 years to initially set up the close collaboration of local PEI's (IET / IMechE / ICE) and more recently the addition of both the IChemE & IStructE, has gone on to be very succesfull delivering joint events and visits.

The dinner also offered the opportunity to present the new Chartered and Incorporated Engineers  and new Fellows with their certificates and also name the winner and runner up of their 'Speak out for Engineering' competion awards the latter of which is similar to the IET's PATW competition.

Following the success and quality of the foregoing, it would seem motivational to be able to set up an IET dinner later this year if possible on similar lines
