Back in November 26 of our local Young Professionals went on a site visit to the DRAX Power station, in Selby, North Yorkshire.

During the visit they learnt that DRAX now uses USA imported biomass, over coal, as it is cleaner, especially being a waste product of the logging industry. They were also reassured of how DRAX could provide electricity should they be without their main generators, got a detailed breakdown of how the main generators worked.

As well as a very formative tour of the vast site, which saw our YP's enjoying the views from 'oversized golf carts', they also got to visit the main building which showed the vast array of control units, each generator needing its own control station.

If you attended this event, please drop us a few comments below, we would love to hear from you!

Overall, the visit was well received, and we would like to thank

The University of Sheffield EEE Society for arranging the site visit, and providing an overview of the day,

Ashley Drenic for use of his photographs and

DRAX for providing our YPs with a very informative day.
