1. Background
UTM IET OnCampus was established on 8th November 2019. It was formed by a group of students from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) who joined IET. UTM is a leading-driven entrepreneurial research university in engineering, science and technology located both in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. However, UTM IET OnCampus based is in Johor Bahru. UTM offered numerous programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Undergraduate students will have to undergo 8 semesters in order to obtain their bachelor’s degree while for postgraduate students, there are 3 semesters for Master programmes and 6 semesters for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) programmes. There are 2 semesters each year. Semester break for semester 1 is usually around January to February while for semester 2 is around June to September. Industry placement for UTM involves spending the third year in full-time employment for at least 3 months, giving you the opportunity to work experience before you graduate.
The city of Johor Bahru where this university is located is actually the capital of the state of Johor, Malaysia. It is located along the Straits of Johor at the southern end of Peninsular Malaysia. The city has a population of 497,097 within an area of 220 km2. Johor Bahru is adjacent to the city of Iskandar Puteri, both anchoring Malaysia's third largest urban agglomeration, Iskandar Malaysia, with a population of 1,638,219. The city is served by Senai International Airport located at the neighbouring Senai town and connected through Skudai Highway. Five airlines, AirAsia, Firefly, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air and Xpress Air, provide flights internationally and domestically. There are many attractions in Johor Bahru and one of it is the Grand Palace which is one of the historical attractions in the city, and is an example of Victorian-style architecture with a garden. There are also Danga Bay which is a 25 kilometres (16 mi) area of recreational waterfront and the Johor Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Malaysia. Johor is also known to have many shopping malls such as Johor Bahru City Square, Holiday Plaza, Komtar JBCC, KSL City, Paradigm Mall, R&F Mall, The Mall Mid Valley Southkey, Toppen Shopping Centre, and Plaza Pelangi.
