After graduation from Plymouth Polytechnic in 1985 I worked as a hardware and software design engineer developing radio modems and newspaper image storage systems in England before moving to Ulm in Germany in 1987. In 1988 I joined a 5 man start-up & still work for the same company, now with 100 employees and owned by a larger industrial automation company. We specialise in cameras and components for the image processing market. After a spell as a SCRUM "Product Owner" responsible for our "Intelligent Camera" product line, I have now moved back full-time into a development team as a "Senior Expert" - which is much more fun.

I am married to Silke and we have three children. I live near Stuttgart. In my spare time I try to play the guitar and I am much more likely to use Linux or Android than Windows or iOS. My idea of a good holiday involves getting away from it all in our VW bus.

I am actually an aerospace engineer, but work a great deal in the software- and control-related areas.

I studied aeronautical engineering at Imperial College, London, and spent a term as an exchange student in ENSAE, Toulouse, France. Having been sponsored by British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) I joined the company after graduation, and worked on clearance and design for various aircraft projects. I was offered a secondment in Germany, working with EADS (now Airbus) in Ottobrunn, and have remained in Germany ever since.

I briefly worked in the flight simulation industry, but have spent most of my time working on flight control system design, which was also the subject for my doctoral thesis at RWTH Aachen.

I also enjoy working in engineering media, and had articles published by corporate magazines. These covered subjects from spaceflight technology to semiconductor research. At the moment I'm still in the aerospace industry, working primarily in requirements management.

I enjoy photography, keeping my French up to speed and, incredibly, singing. I'm also keen to set up collaborations with other engineering societies in Germany.
