Help Us Reach The Next Generation Of Engineers

We are looking for members to act as Schools Liaison Officers, helping to introduce young people to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and raising awareness of engineering careers.
Currently, we are looking for volunteers in:
Birmingham, North Devon, Plymouth,Hereford & Worcestershire, North West Midlands, Northumbria, Aberdeen, Scotland South East, Scotland South West, Isle of Wight and Teesside.

What would I do?
Schools Liaison Officers support opportunities for young people to learn about engineering. As part of the role you would:
  • Exhibit at careers or science fairs
  • Give careers presentations
  • Support local educational projects
  • Promote IET careers and education resources
The amount of time volunteered is entirely up to you, however the role does require some daytime availability.

Support will be there for you from IET staff and experienced schools liaison volunteers, and training will be provided from the IET and also the STEM Ambassador programme, which you would join.

No experience or special qualifications are required. You should have good communication skills and an active interest in the development of young people of all ages and abilities.

Introducing young people to engineering is a rewarding experience, and can contribute valuable continuing professional development. If you're concerned about your employer supporting your involvement in this activity we may be able to help.

If you are interested in volunteering please fill in the Schools Liaison Officer application form and email to ieteducation@theiet.org and we will get back to you to discuss the role.
