Happy New Year from the Southern California LN committee. This year we are going to try and send a ‘what’s happening’ email every month to keep you informed about everything your Local Network is doing. Please make sure your preferences are set to receive emails from your Local Network.

Following the success of last years Present Around the World competition we are going to be holding our event on the 26th March. If you know anybody aged 18-30 who fancies the opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to Toronto by presenting for 10 minutes on an engineering or technology related topic and then answering questions on it for a further 5 minutes, please put them in touch with Richard Tregaskes for more details. This year to help competitors prepare, where there is enough interest, we will provide pre-event coaching sessions at a local university.

For those who aren’t old enough to compete yet, we helping the Peninsular Heritage School in Palos Verdes with their STEM program with the donation of a Lego Robotics kit suitable for participating in the First Lego League, and hopefully help inspire some of them into technical careers.

For those whose careers have progressed into the fields of lasers and opto-electronics the Americas region has been asked to nominate two individuals for consideration for the A F Harvey Engineering Research Prize. If you know of anybody suitable please contact Julian Harvey

As always we would welcome your thoughts and ideas about what is of interest to you and look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events (see the events listing on this page), please get in touch with one of us or suggest an event in the comments below.
