Project Control Network are organising a series of webinars during 2020 which will give an insight into project controls to those who are new to working within project teams, or those who have an interest in projects and project controls. The webinars will provide an understanding of how a project is set up and controlled including how it is governed, how costs, scope, and timing are determined and controlled, how change is managed, and how risks and issues are managed. It will explain the tools used to control projects, measure progress, and spot deviation to bring the project back under control.


Introduction and Overview: will explain the context and need for project controls and the consequences of lack of control or poor control, it will explain what the main topics are within Project Controls that will be explained in more depth in later webinars and how each are interlinked.


Governance: will explain the crucial role played by a decision making structure, and how this fits with the later subjects in providing a mechanism to control scope, cost and timing to ensure the project delivers what it set out to as defined in the business case. It will also explain how this governance fits into wider programmes, portfolios, and corporate governance.


Cost and Scope: will explain how costs are controlled and how what is to be delivered is controlled. It will introduce the tools and techniques used to achieve this control, e.g. Earned Value Management.


Scheduling: will explain how plans are made to ensure the project deliverables are provided on time. It will explain planning tools used such as critical path networks and Gant charts and how progress is measured and controlled and what happens if slippage occurs


Change Management: will explain how risks and issues are managed and how requests for change are considered and if accepted the effects on the other topics previously explained
