November's blog posting is given over to David Perton.

David has a BSc.(hons) in Industrial Engineering from  Hatfield Polytechnic, and originally joined the IProdE as a student member.  His current role is as a project manager working for a Commissioning Support Unit that is delivering a Continuing Healthcare Assessment service. The project is to introduce a new standard operating process against a background of organisation restructuring and IT changes.

After being made redundant in 1999, David began doing contract and interim management, including data quality work for Plaxton’s Busses & Coaches, creating prototype parts lists for the Bentley GT, from the first concept car, programme coordination of the base engine for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage at Jaguar.

The next 18 months were spent in the NHS in Dudley as a project manager, managing a number of projects aimed at shortening lengths of stay in hospital and hospital admission avoidance by building capacity in community services for appropriate patients. A return next to the automotive sector with Aston Martin where David was programme coordinator for the powertrain for the DB9 and DBS cars, the latter being the car featured in James Bond’s Casino Royal.  Amazing!

David then became launch coordinator for BMW in the Mini factory, at a time where several refreshes were launched including a new convertible and a batch of 50 electric minis.

David's career has been varied and spanned quite a few sectors, including the following:

Molins (trainee production engineer)

Belling (production planner & expediter)

Bowater containers (Industrial Engineer)

Project Office Furniture as a production Engineer working on new product implementations

David acheived CEng in 1994 and it is really great to have him on the exec team with his wealth of experience and knowledge.

David is organising our March event on Agile which will take place in Birmingham, so do keep checking back for details.
