The Election Of Ordinary Members For The Branch Committee For Session 2018/2019

As the number of valid nominations is more than the number of vacancies, a poll for the election of Ordinary Members for the Branch Committee is scheduled for 21 September 2018. Biography of each candidate is given as below:

 
Candidate Biography:  Ir Joseph C H LAI

Joseph is a Telecommunications Engineer in the Hong Kong Police Force with Electronic Engineering degree and Master of Engineering in Electronic Engineering degree from the City University of Hong Kong, and Master of Business Administration in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He started his professional engineering career development from PCCW in position of Graduate Trainee to Project Manager focusing on telecommunications system integrations and railway communication projects in both Hong Kong and Taiwan for 9 years.  Joseph also worked in the Huawei and MTR Corporation subsequently in the positions of Product Manager and Design Engineer respectively to enrich business management experiences and strengthen railway communication expertise.

His growth in engineering tightly bond with the IET Hong Kong. Joseph has been devoted to be IET volunteer for over a decade. Starting from year 2006, he served the IET Hong Kong Younger Member Section (YMS) as Ordinary Member and was elected to be Honorary Secretary of YMS in session 2008-2009. After one year break, he has been Ordinary Member in the Informatics and Control Technologies Section (ICTS) in session 2011 and currently is Honorary Treasurer of ICTS in session 2017-2018, and will be Vice Chairman of ICTS in session 2018-2019.  He has organized many events and conferences for the IET Hong Kong. During the time he served YMS, Joseph organized Younger Members Exhibition Conference 2008.  In ICTS, he organized annual flatship event of ICTS called ICT Conference from 2014 to 2018. Recently, he was invited by the IET Hong Kong to be organizing committee of the 30th Anniversary celebration of the IET Hong Kong. 

Joseph has received a lot from the IET Hong Kong in the past developing him from a young engineer to a profession engineer. It is time for him to further contribute in the IET Hong Kong to promote science and engineering in particular to next generation.


Candidate Biography: Mr. Leung Cheuk Kin Peter

Mr. Peter Leung is currently the Senior Customer Installation Engineer of HK Electric and has over 20 years of experience in the power industry, with key portfolio on customer services development, connection of supply and compliance, meter management and smart meter deployment, as well as customer information system development.  Mr. Leung also holds the title as the Manager, EV Support and Development, making key contributions in expanding the EV charging infrastructure for public use in HK Island and has successfully launched a series of initiatives to promote the development of private EV chargers at residential and commercial buildings.  Mr. Leung is a Chartered Engineer and holds a MBA degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Leung has been actively serving the IET HK for more than 10 years since 2004 during which he had devoted to promoting the development of IET HK amongst young engineers, students as well as the professional engineering community, all through his commitment in serving the following roles in IET HK over years:

Candidate Biography:  Ir Matthew T C Chan, MH

Matthew Chan studied at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and obtained his Master of Science Degree in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick, UK. Matthew has been a seasoned professional engineer in the fields of control, automation & instrumentation (CAI), electrical engineering and safety & quality management. Matthew joined the former Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in 1995 as Corporate Member and has since been registered as Chartered Engineer (UK) and Registered Professional Engineer (HK) in the disciplines of Electrical and CAI. 

Matthew worked for the MTR Corporation in the positions of Operations Engineering Standards Engineer, and Safety & Quality Engineer. Prior joined MTR, he worked for CLP Power Hong Kong for over 17 years with his last 5 years as Engineer I responsible for the development of the Operations Integrity Management System for major electrical power generation projects. 

Matthew had served the IET Hong Kong since 2001 and was elected the Chairman of the Management Section Committee in session 2004/05 and member of the Branch Committee and the Pearl River Delta Committee till 2011. He also served the Safety Specialists Committee of the HKIE as Honorary Secretary from years 2005 to 2007. Besides, he offered his voluntary service for the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in the following capacities:
  • Subject Specialist (Sector Property Maintenance/Building Renovation Service) of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications
  • Disciplinary Tribunal Panel (Electricity) under the Electricity Ordinance
  • Appeal Board Panel of the Consumer Goods Safety Ordinance
  • Member of the Advisory Committee of the Competence Standards for E&M Trade – Education Bureau
  • Member of the Appeal Tribunal (Buildings) under the Building Ordinance
  • Observer Member of the Technical Committee – Quality Management and Quality Assurance (TC176) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

Currently, Matthew is still serving as a member of the Appeal Tribunal (Buildings). In recognition of his contribution to the community, Matthew was conferred the Medal of Honour (M.H.) by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR in the 2014 Honours List.
