Events programme

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions the IET Isle of Wight Section Committee have decided not to hold physical event meetings during the session 2020-21.

It has considered the merits of hosting ‘local’ virtual events, but concluded that national and international virtual events provide a strong offering that is readily available, and that the strengths of local physical meetings (physical networking and session interaction) would be less effective ‘virtually’ than our traditional ‘physical’ offering.

Although we considered tentatively provisioning for the second half of the 2020-21 session (events in January, February, and March 2021) we considered that these were highly vulnerable to cancellation or low attendance.

Further details and links to virtual events and material of potential interest for your Continued Professional Development, and enjoyment, are in the downloadable Programme Card format here: https://communities.theiet.org/files/18670.

  • Hi Darren,

This is our current understanding of the CPD certificates:

CPD certificates are provided as an aid for the attendee to keep on file a reminder of his/her attendance. The certificates do not provide proof of attendance and will not be accepted as such. It is up to the attendee to keep a record of CPD. Systems such as the IET's Career Manager or various in-company schemes are available for that purpose. For candidates for professional registration Career Manager and the application form process supplemented by the Professional Registration Advisor interviews provide the evidence which might be examined. For those already registered needing to record CPD there is no specification of how this might be presented by somebody selected for the sample check, but Career manager is recommended as a convenient tool for keeping a record.

I hope this clarifies the situation? We aim to be providing more detail on how to access the CPD certificates at coming events to allow you to print them off in future.
  • I have been unable to print off the CPD certs of the last two events at the Bargeman's Rest, due in part IT issues and forgetfulness. If I am audited fro CPD purposes will my signing the register for both events bee sufficient?
