For over 100 years the Lucas companies evolved and developed in line with the growth in mass mobility, starting with  bicycles and extending into motor cars and aircraft.
Despite the usual fluctuations in business performance, overall, Lucas can be considered to have been a successful player in its automotive, aerospace and industrial spheres of activity.
In a bid to become a global automotive systems supplier, a merger with Varity precipitated a rapid demise of the company bearing the Lucas brand, although many of its former activities continue today under a multiplicity of successors.
The presenter has worked for 50 years with Lucas, its customers and one of its successors and so will add a personal dimension to the history of this great British company.
