The IET Young Professionals Coventry and Warwickshire Network recently held their first ever wellbeing event, where attendees could: take a break from the working lives and have an open conversation about mental health. Read more to find out about what topics were discussed and why this event was important to put on.

Mental Health has become an increasingly important topic to be discussed, especially with the pandemic changing the very way that we all live our lives. This is why the IET Young Professionals decided to run its very own Virtual Wellbeing Café. We created  this event to be a safe space for attendees to take a break from their University/Working lives, learn more about mental health and share their personal experiences.

Lead by Media Officer Hannah Harper and Committee Member Yung Lau, and guest host James Brown, the following topics were discussed:

  • Personal Wellbeing and Emotional Intelligence

    • Why is it important? Stress Statistics and Finding Balance

  • How emotional intelligence is becoming an essential skill

  • Burnout, Fatigue and Sleep
    • Burnout and Rust-out – what are they, where are you on the pressure scale?

  • Preventing Burnout and Rust-out: Managing Pressure

  • Fatigue and Sleep: Sleep Disorders, Sleep Deprivations, Medical Conditions, and Top Tips to get sleep

  • Relaxation and Mindfulness
    • Relaxing effectively

  • What is mindfulness, what induces mindfulness for you?

The presentation used on the day is attached to this blog post, so you can see in more detail what was discussed. We would also like to share the Wellbeing resources that were used:
