Sixty people attended the IET Coventry and Warwickshire Annual Dinner on Thursday, 15th. November, hosted by our Chair, Orla Murphy, twice winner of the Young Woman Engineer Of The Year Award and a senior engineer at Jaguar Land Rover.

 Sixty people attended the IET Coventry and Warwickshire Annual Dinner on Thursday, 15th. November, a gourmet repast prepared by trainee chefs supported by first year students as waiters, etc.

The evening was hosted by our Chair, Orla Murphy, twice winner of the Young Woman Engineer Of The Year Award and a senior engineer at Jaguar Land Rover.

A fantastic meal enjoyed by guests from local industry, by our event speakers, by local educationalists and, not least, by students from WMG Academy for Young Engineers who presented their Greenpower Car project.

The three Greenpower students achievements demonstrated their superb engineering skills including making a novel NuVinci gearbox, drum brakes mounted internally to reduce drag and a collapsible car front to add safety in case of a crash.  The team had won the Greenpower Innovation Prize for their achievements.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the Greenpower team and to two IET Members, they were:

Stephen Powley for his voluntary work as a Schools Liaison Officer and for his support for the Coventry Robot Day Project. Stephen has worked tirelessly to engage with school children and teachers over many years.

David Archer for his support for Manufacturing for more than 30 years and for his support for young people through Imagineering. David has been working with Chris White, a former MP also present, to support manufacturing in the Midlands and across the UK.

After dinner the trainee chefs and waiters received a standing ovation for the excellent meal that made the whole evening so successful.

To close, Dr. Gaynor Sharp,Association for Science Education, asked to audience to stand and applaud Derrick Willer who had organised the dinner and also congratulate him on his MBE for services over many, many years to education.
