The IET H&W network are holding a Raspberry Pi workshop at the 2014 Next Generation Innovators event which is being held at the Three Counties Showground on Thursday October 2nd 2014 under the leadership of Paddy Fawcett. We will also have a table stand for advertising the IET together with some appropriate material for giving out to the students attending to show them what engineering is all about.

We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping at the workshop your participation would be much appreciated.

The event will start at 10.00am with the schools registering from 9.30am, so people would be needed from 9.00am onwards. The event will finish at around 4.00pm. Final details would be sent out nearer the time. Even if you can only make part of the day that will be most useful.

The workshop will comprise of 10 Raspberry Pi workstations, each workstation having two students. They will be given a fairly simple programming project using the Raspberry Pi driving a series of LED’s. The workshop will be around 50 minutes long starting every hour, so 100 students will be able to participate.

It is expected that 800 students will attend the event this year from years 7, 8and 9 together with around 70 teaching staff, so schools will be registering their interest with the organisers as not all will be able to take part.

We are looking for around 5 people to assist at any one time (each overseeing 2 workstations) and the more we have then the easier it will be to cater for breaks, lunch etc.

If you would be able to participate please could you let me know as soon as possible? My contact details are shown below.

In addition the IET H&W centre is exhibiting at the main Festival of Innovation being held in the Malvern Theatres. Our stand will be at the Festival on Wednesday 1 October, Friday 3 October and Saturday 4 October, which is a special day for families. If you are able to volunteer for stand duty on these days instead of or as well as the Schools Event that would be much appreciated also.

More information on the Malvern Festival of Innovation can be found at http://www.festival-innovation.com/ and on the Next Generation Innovators http://www.festival-innovation.com/index.php/programme/oct-2nd-next-generation-innovators

If you know of others who may be interested in assisting on the day, especially if they are already STEM Ambassadors, please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you!!

Many thanks

Best regards
