Scotland South West Young Professional - Chair Welcome for 2016-17

The IET Scotland South West Young Professionals (IET SW YP) represents all the students and young professionals of the IET of live, study and work in the South West of Scotland. Our committee are a mix of student and graduate members who meet regularly and organise a wide variety of interesting and professional activities, which allow young members to develop their careers, make contacts, and have fun!

The committee organise a wide range of activities ranging from technical visits, presentations, workshops and professional development events, to social events and networking opportunities.


Our committee are represented by a diverse range of students and graduate members who meet on a semi-regular basis. We organise a number of events thought the year - from networking events with other institutions to professional workshops - all with an aim to allow young members to develop their careers, make contacts within various industries and above all, to have fun!

For the 2016/2017 session, we have a list of activities planned;

November 2016                 : Networking event with the IMechE
January 2017                : Lifeskills Event; Taking Control of your Career
February 2017                : Technical Visit; Scottish Power Control Room
March/ April 2017        : Present Around the World Competition
April 2017                : Technical Visit; Kelburn Windfarm
June 2017                : Committee AGM
August 2017                : Lifeskills Event; Communicating for Success

The SW YP Committee will be putting on these activities thought the session with free transportation for site visits and refreshments for any lecture-based events.

The majority of the events will be hosted within the IET’s Glasgow HQ, the Teacher Building at St Enoch Square. This is also where we host our committee meetings throughout the year.
