The good news is that with the help of the Enterprise Software giant SAP and the Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and CODERINA Technology and Educational Foundation (the Operational partner of the program in Nigeria) Nigerian kids would be part of this international program for the first time in its 15 years of existence.



FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) a LEGO League is a program for a team (comprising of 2-10) of children from ages 9 to 16. It has three components comprising of Project, Robot Game and Core Values. Through each of these components they are tasked (working during the FLL season lasting about a period of 8weeks) with the responsibility of carrying out research on an annual theme by offering innovative solutions to issues, Build, design and program robots to carry out certain missions on the FLL table and also interviewed based on the Core Values of FLL - Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition.  At the end of the 8-week period the team will compete for honours and in subsequent years the winning team will be able to represent Nigeria at the FLL World Festival or other international competitions.



The program launched in Abuja and Lagos in November with public and private schools, afterschool clubs and some NGOs registering teams to participate in the regional tournaments coming up in March 2015. The launch in Lagos at the hall of the Oregun High School in Ikeja had 200 students from 20 public schools and 40 teachers in attendance. Robot kits and the annual challenge kits were distributed to the students and their teachers.



 A train the trainer course was carried out at the CODERINA training hub in Garki Area 3 Abuja with 12 students from the Nigeria-Ghana International College, and 20 teachers from different public schools and University of Abuja staff school attending.

According to the program coordinator Olajide Ademola Ajayi, a second wave of the train the trainer course will happen in Lagos at the University of Lagos during the first weekend in December.



Excitement is in the air as enthused on the CODERINA facebook page one of the students Chukwuka Edozimo wrote "I can't wait to Start building up Our robot. We are going to Name it OSHS413" another student Omojowo Esther also wrote "This is first time that I've attended the programme and I think it's educating and challenging. Community Senior High School. Wasimi"
