13th December 2020 - The Institution of Engineering and Technology Brunei Darussalam Network held its 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Sunday, 13th December 2020 at Radisson Hotel, Brunei. The AGM received the Chairman’s Report and the Treasurer’s Report for the Session 2019/2020, and also the election of the new Office Bearers, Management Committee Members and Auditors for the term 2020/2021.

The new management committee is comprised of professionals from both the government and private institutions. Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar has been elected as the Honorary Chairman for the Session 2020/2021.  Also elected was Dk Roselawati binti Pg Haji Halus as the new Honorary Vice Chairman, Muhd Aminuddin bin Mohd. Yussof as the Honorary Secretary, Major (R) Wan Farhan bin Ibrahim as the new Honorary Treasurer and Ikhwan Tiong bin Abdullah as the Honorary Assistant Secretary. 

Other committee members are Lim Sam Lee,  Dr. William Voon South Fee,  Ir. Simon K A Leong, Ir. Dr. Tang Shi Siong, Lt. Col. (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, Ir. Poh Eng Hong, Pg Hj Masle bin Pg Hj Hamid,  Zainidi Hj Abd Hamid and Lt. Nurul Khartini binti Akui. Meanwhile, Mr. James Joseph Sison Villalva and Ir. Chin Lee Tuck were also elected to become the auditors for Session 2020/2021.

Meanwhile, the IET Young Professional Section (YPS) elected Jevons Penaflor as Chairman, Muhd Faiz bin Adros as Vice Chairman, Tang Dun Hao as Secretary and Tay Shieh Cherng as Treasurer. Also elected as ordinary IET YPS members are Pg. Md Abd Aziz Pg Hj Hassan, Soon Boon Ann and Ikhwan Tiong bin Abdullah,

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. The IET has more than 168,000 members in 150 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

In the AGM, the Honorary Chairman reiterated the vision and mission of IET and what the IET Brunei Local Network stood for. The IET Brunei sets its vision in sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) community contributing towards national development.  With a mission among others, is to establish a culture of professionalism highly valued and appreciated by all in Brunei Darussalam. Increased membership and collaboration with relevant stakeholders will be key success factors in achieving this mission. The Honorary Chairman reported the IET Brunei membership with a total of 115 members.

The AGM ended with an interesting and informative technical talk entitled “Radio Frequency Monitoring” by personnel from Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI).
