IET Extraordinary General Meeting

Nutmeg Room
Orchard Hotel
30th July 2018
19:30 start

This Extraordinary General Meeting or EOGM was called to formalise changes to the constitution of the IET Singapore Local Network to reflect the new financial year dates and following the upcoming departure of both our former Chairman Mr Jolyon Caplin and our Honorary Secretary Ms Huang LingXi, to formalise the appointment of a new Chairman Mr Mike Henry and Honorary Secretary Mr Morgan Bonici.

The evening kicked off with a talk on Electrification in the Aerospace Industry by Associate Professor Dr Amit Gupta, Chief of Rolls Royce Electrical Division in Singapore.

He took us through a quick history of Rolls Royce from its first cars and the Eagle, its first Aero engine all the way to the opening of the Seletar Campus in 2012. He then discussed how, using electric systems to at first supplement aircraft engines to operate in Hybrid systems, the classic gas turbine engine the Trent 1000 (check out the Rolls Royce Engine apps available on the apple and google store) was optimised. He then moved on to the current challenges in the industry, including energy storage and some of the directions in which future engine and aircraft designs take. This included incorporating Distributed Propulsion and Boundary Layer Integration.

The constitution changes were approved and farewells were bid to both Jolyon, leaving Singapore after thirty years teaching at the Singapore Polytechnic, and to LingXi who is leaving to commence further studies in the US.

We wish them both all the best for their future and thank them for their tireless services to the IET Singapore Local Network where they will be sorely missed.

Morgan Bonici
