The winners are:
Best PhD paper: Jaime Zabalza, University of Strathclyde, for his paper "Feature Extraction and Data Reduction for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Earth Observation”.
Best MSc paper: Zep Mouris, Kingston University, for his paper “3D scene analysis and reconstruction for immersive gaming”.
The students entered the competition earlier in the year with the support of their supervisors. A panel of volunteer judges from across academia reviewed the submissions and made a final decision on the winner for each category.
Jaime, who has been an IET member since 2011, was delighted to win and have the opportunity to visit Savoy Place and experience the Faraday Centre facilities first hand. Jaime’s PhD research focused on working with remote sensors and hyperspectral images using images available from NASA’s public data sets which are hyperspectral images from satellites to find more effective and efficient results using data mining. On winning the prize, Jaime said, “The facilities [at Savoy Place] are amazing… I’m really happy to be a member and win this prestigious prize.”

The winners and their supervisors, Prof. Stephen Marshall, Dr Jinchang Ren and Dr Dimitrios Makris, joined IET Board of Trustee member Prof. William Stewart, Head of Communities, Alex Taylor and Vision & Imaging Prize lead DrTomas Piatrik for lunch at Savoy Place, London, where they received their prize money and certificates.
The Vision & Imaging Network is a community-led Network aimed at those working and studying within the fields of vision and imaging technologies.
