Here we are, time to start checking in.

The doors are open and the hoi polloi are on their way in.

Paul is already here, I have visited occasionally, so who’s going arrive next and will they slip their boots off at the door?

  • Increasing the number of available symbols to include maths formula etc is on our wish list with our supplier so we hope to see it in a future update soon. yes

While researching math style fonts and writing formulae into word etc, I've come across something in MS Windows that I never knew existed! Although in my defence I've never really had need to use it... blush

    The Math Input Panel....

Go to the Run command (or 'search' on a Windows 10 machine) and type in MIP to find the Math Input Panel. When open, you can write equations etc freehand with your mouse (or I guess a stylus if you have a graphics tablet attached) which are then converted to type. Unfortunately this only works for inputting into the like of MS Word and not this message window but I did think it was rather a cool little app!

  • Don't forget the Windows "Character Map" tool as an alternative way to find obscure Unicode symbols to paste into a message:

    ∂x ∕ ∂y ≥ √(x³ + y³)

I'm liking the look of this forum so far, hopefully everyone will be able to make the move

  • Andrew Jewsbury:

Ok but where are the science/electrical characters?

It is at least possible to get them - and place them in super/subscript positions - unlike the old Forum.

    For instance, I did:

      RA × IΔn ≤ 50 V

      200 Ω

just by going into "Source" mode and using .. Δ × and Ω HTML directives. If you quote my reply and hit the 'Source' button you should be able to see what I did. Of course having all the symbols available at the touch of a button would be infinitely better, but....

       - Andy.

Nice one Andy, never thought we'd have direct connectivity to the source code.......

    Ok RA × IΔn ≤ 50 V Can't get these ones working Δ Ω

    Thanks Legh

I do not seem to appear on the main page .

    HELP.
  • In probably. What only 15 mins to edit a post?

  • What only 15 mins to edit a post?

Correct. Apparently it's a balance between being able to correct typos in your original and not confusing the entire thread by changing what other people might have read and responded to. It was subject to an amount of discussion on the test forum. I think the mods can still alter things after things after the 15min though - so there is still a method for altering things if given just cause.

       - Andy.
  • Just to add that we can increase the overall edit time allowance too. 15 minutes was just an initial marker in the sand so to speak. We've always said if members of this community feel that we need to increase the time frame then we'll take a look at it and adjust appropriately.

As Andy says though, being able to completely alter the context of your post indefinitely can and does derail the trail of conversation and isn't considered best practice or good forum etiquette...

Mods can always edit posts though so if something really needs to be edited outside of the edit time window then just let us know!
