Holland is divided into 12 provinces that do not have legislative autonomy, the state is unitary and the laws governing professions are not derogated from individual provinces. As far as the professions are concerned, the engineers are not included among the regulated ones,therefore there is no authorized regulating body neither at the national level nor at the regional level that regulates the profession of engineer and its exercise.

THE PROFESSION OF ENGINEER IN HOLLAND.

Holland represents a particular case as regards both the exercise of the engineering profession.In Holland,in fact,the profession of engineer is not regulated and the title of engineer is not protected.

RECOGNITION OF PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS GENERAL RULES.

The exercise of the profession is free and the citizens of the European Union who intend to work in the Netherlands as engineers can do so without any kind of restriction and without their academic qualification having to be recognized.It may happen that the employer,the public body or the company for which you intend to collaborate may ask for evidence of the degree certificate obtained abroad, but this occurs in a completely discretionary way and there is no national law that obliges workers from European Union to proceed with the recognition of its title. In Holland there is a professional institute of engineers (KIVI - Het Koninklijk Instituut Van Ingenieurs) which, however, does not carry out any order or regulatory function of the profession. Membership in the Institute is completely optional. The Institute of Engineers mostly plays a role of liaison and direction of professionals in their careers. For this reason can be an important point of reference for engineers who intend to work in the Netherlands for all information relating to the labor market and recent technological innovations in the engineering field. The Institute also provides for a voluntary certification which is accompanied by a structured professional development plan for certified engineers. The certification is voluntary but it is certainly useful for the professional growth of the engineer in the Netherlands..

On the light of what exposed above,one thing is certain:they appear to be like a " clone" of the British way of creating professional engineers!... This means also that the British model is considered a valid one!
