New to the Healthcare Technologies online network? What made you join? How are you involved in the area of Healthcare Technologies? Introduce yourself here!
  • Greetings to Community Members

I am a Telecommunications Engineer but have become involved in a medical (dental) project through a friend, a retired dental surgeon. We are conducting research and development in the field of High Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for the non-invasive treatment of certain dental conditions. Initial experiments (performed by an established research agency) are promising. We look for suppport from appropriate professionals to take the project to the next stage and hope that other Community members may be interested to know more.

    Hello!

My name is Carlos Mello, I am new to the community. I work at Siemens Healthineers as a Field Service Engineer in diagnostic laboratory equipment for clinical analysis. I have more than 20 years of experience.

I am responsible for the installation and perfect functioning of these equipments to provide accurate and reliable results of the blood tests performed.

These equipments can also be connected in an automation belt, such as an industrial production line.

I believe that IOT will be the future for the connection of these equipments with the end user.

    kind regards,

    Hello Everyone,
My name is Ejay and I currently work as a Senior Scientist in the field of Process Analytics within the formulations platform at The Centre For Process Innovation (CPI). The role sees me work closely in the areas of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), measurement approaches & techniques applied to pharma, homecare and food products. In addition to this, I am also involved in signal processing and algorithm development, chemometric modelling and advanced process control.

Before taking up my current role, I worked in various projects which saw me develop algorithms which could feature extract key indicators from acquired process data and give indications on the structural health of various materials, condition monitoring of rotating machinery and process monitoring of mixing/agglomeration processes.

More recently as part of a PhD programme, I developed a method of non-invasively inspecting the quality of powders in real time for a home care based product using Acoustic Emission sensing (high-frequency sound waves). Prior to that, I was a key player in the development of the UK’s first non-contact inline magnetometer based sensor for pipeline inspections in the oil and gas sector.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Master’s in Control Systems and PhD in Process Measurement and Instrumentation.

I will be keen on expanding my mind on how my knowledge and expertise from measurement and health monitoring of processes can be applicable and beneficial to the Medical/Healthcare Industry….look forward to learning and sharing ideas with all of the bright people within the group.

    Regards
    Dr.Ejay Nsugbe MSc MIET

A small update from me. I've been in and around the eHealth domain, through standardisation at ETSI primarily, for a fairly long time and there has been some recent activity that you may not be aware of.

First off is the publication of ETSI's White Paper on eHealth: "The argument in favour of eHealth standardization in ETSI", available from https://www.etsi.org/images/files/ETSIWhitePapers/etsi_wp29_ehealth_standardization_FINAL.pdf Whilst I am the primary author I think this presents a good argument for why the future of health care, in particular global interoperable health care, has to be standards based.

Following on from this is a lot of work, also in the standards domain, on health related devices. In particular the work in "Body Area Networks" where the connectivity of sensors (health sensors especially) are connected. This is then hooked into the wider world through the SAREF ontology to give a high assurance of semantic interoperability (in other words knowing I am connecting to a blood flow sensor and not a gas flow sensor). I'd encourage members of the IET Health group to join in the work of ETSI in these areas.

eHealth, SmartBAN, SmartM2M, oneM2M and so forth. Further details at ETSI's sites (https://www.etsi.org and https://portal.etsi.org)

    Best regards,
