Plastic Pollution

Having read the piece on plastic pollution in ET I wondered how many people were aware that one of the key papers on the effect of microplastics on fish was withdrawn because it was effectively made up.

  • I can understand how turtles eating plastic bags, thinking they are jellyfish, would be a really bad thing.

But I have always wondered what's so bad about microplastics.  Marine life must be eating bits of sand all the time, so why is a tiny speck of plastic worse than that?
