What's your favourite (or least favourite) Bond gadget?

Today (October 5th) is Global James Bond day so this resident James Bond fan couldn't let it pass without mention... wink

Over the years there have been countless gadgets invented by Q which are often used in the field by 007. But which is your favourite and which one really makes you scoff with disbelief as it would never have worked?

  • Ok, confession time....

I have never seen a James Bond film (just not my thing) so can't answer - but would any of them really have worked in the real world?
  • Joanne! surprise

I've seen quite a few of them but my memory is sketchy on the gadgets. I quite like the laser watch and the cars are great but from a more practical point of view I really liked the 'Aston Martin Field Medical Kit' which enabled Bond to save himself after drinking poison.

As for how many are plausible, there's an interesting article here: James Bond 007: 7 Bond gadgets
  • I'm speechless Joanne!  surprise  How can you have never seen a James Bond film?

Actually there are many of the gadgets that have become mainstream. In 'From Russia with Love' (1963) we see one of the first 'car phones' and I believe he had a pager too which was very uncommon back in the day. Even the vehicle trackers are mainstream nowadays...

I think my personal favourite has got to be Little Nellie from You Only Live Twice (1967)... wink
  • I just like all the cars with their various gagets i.e. tyre shredders, ejector seat, machine guns etc.  What more could you want in a car?
  • Oh Deborah! Don't get me on the subject of the Bond cars!!! I could go on for hours.... laugh

  • The little blue trunks Mr Bond wears in Casino Royale devil
  • So, your favourite Mr Bond is ....... ? We were lucky enough to get a tour of Wing Commander Ken Wallis's collection and to meet Little Nellie. Had it been a warmer day he would have flown, and he was only 96. He really enjoyed our IET Prestige event at Duxford.
  • Wow! surprise

I'm very jealous Alex! I would have loved to have met Wing Commander Wallis and get up close and personal to Little Nellie too!

My favourite Bond...? I thought everyone already new that!

The one and the only Sean Connery of course! wink

However, he's rapidly being caught up by Daniel Craig... and I'm secretly hoping that Mr Craig does agree to at least one more film before he bows out!
  • I'm not sure I like the modern story lines but I do think Daniel Craig fits the role very well.
  • Minus points for me for picking up an old thread but had to say that I visited the Shuttleworth Collection a few weeks ago and finally had the opportunity to meet Little Nellie in person... ?
