The new coalition called the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing will focus on educating policymakers and the public on the importance of licensing standards.

Rigorous for a reason:

As lawmakers debate the extent of licensing needed for many jobs, the health, safety, and welfare of the public must be considered. Highly complex and technical professions rightly require rigorous and ongoing education, examination, and experience.

Or, to put it another way, only members of our club should be allowed to work in our industries.  That way, we can ensure that members of our club are guaranteed employment and high wages.
