The IET has submitted its response to the Consultation on a new Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) from the Marketing Integrity Group, part of the Construction Products Association.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our call on the Code for Construction Product Information and for all your honest and helpful feedback and information.
The consultation focuses on a draft outline of the Code which aims to ensure that the information manufacturers supply about their products is clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible and unambiguous. Whilst the IET supports the principle of improvement of product dissemination within the industry and agrees that a code of conduct which helps communication with integrity is a useful and necessary tool, it cannot support the Code in its current form.
Read the response here on the #ManufacturersPLG blog or download the pdf from the consultations page here.
In summary, issues identified with the code include:
- It is mandatory by default
- Lack of clarity of purpose
- Lack of consistent and impartial advice
- The Code will not solve the problem of product information.
The IET recommends therefore:
- Make it voluntary
- Be rigorously independent of commercial interests
- Explain how to comply
- Support a digital Golden Thread
We'd be interested in your thoughts, as always.
