  • Its a good NEWS. Now the question is how the PEngs be absorbed whether as simply MIET or CEng?

This should be determined by the IET according to their Qualifications and relevant Professional Experience . But the real  problem will be : what about the SPEng Members and Fellows who are at the same time already Members of the IET , that is , PEng  MIET and PEng (UK) MIET ?!  They will become twice MIETs ...?!

It is a good thing to point out that the SPEng ,established in 1969 , was a direct emanation of the pre-existing Society of Engineers ,established in 1854 !

According to the SPEng / IET ACCORD  in absorbing in their Membership , the residual SPEng Members ( about 500 units ) you should be elected ( but  only after succesfully passing through their further " fillter "  called  " Test Sample "  ) to the Fellow (FIET ) status  but only if you are also a FELLOW in the SPEng Membership ! But since you are only Member , this does not apply to you ( and to all other Membes holding a degree or an equivalent qualification  , too...! )  So you 'll become , by reapplying to the IET ,  an IET Member ( MIET ) again , that is , twice...! So this Accord applies only to a few elected...!

If you are a Fellow in SPE then you can become a Fellow in IET : Try this route !
  • IET emailed me about my latest CV for the transfer to Fellow on 6th of June. Until now, no news.
  • Visitors to the SPEng website are now directed to IET surprise
  • I am given to understand that the title has been transferred to Engineering Council and any residual assets donated to a STEM charity. I’m unsure why the former website redirects to IET, but would assume that this it was just considered more appropriate than an alternative PRI by whoever dealt with this.

A quick web map search shows its former Head Office as a shed behind a farm in rural Essex. It may have had some legal legitimacy but clearly not much credibility. Please exercise due diligence when seeking qualifications or other forms of recognition.
  • The old office was at Lutyens House, Billing Brook Road, Northampton. It was the same address as ABE, now known as CABE. Just only recently they moved to rural Essex.
