"Precautionary Blackout". All at Sea.

A blackout on a cruise liner caused panic recently. So blackouts are not restricted to terra firma.

  • Lucky that the ship was where it was. Going eastwards towards Melbourne one voyage, off Cape Otway the 52,055 tonnes of ocean going splendour that I was on, was rolling her guts out! (This whilst under power.) Our Captain came into the radio room white faced at one point, he had walked out onto the bridge wing and she rolled. One moment he was 100 feet above the water, seconds later he was heading towards the waves.

When I went to my cabin afterwards, I had difficulty getting in because my furniture, a sofa and arm-chairs had re-positioned themselves and the wardrobe drawers, despite having Terry clips or similar to hold them in, had slid out across the door.

    Fun times...
