Welcome to the IET Northumbria Network.

IET Northumbria Network covers the counties of Northumberland, Durham and the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear  (the Newcastle and Sunderland conurbation).

Our main activities consist of arranging technical talks to which all are welcome. They are mostly held in the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, but also at the Universities of Sunderland and Durham.  We also organise occasional visits to sites of interest to members e.g. Nissan, Wylam Brewery.

A regular annual event which we help to arrange and finance and the University Student Projects competition in which the four local Universities participate.

Our main committee has a nucleus of 10 members comprising academics, engineers and students. We meet quarterly in Newcastle to discuss strategy and agree on speakers/ topics and visits and to pool resources for the benefit of the engineering profession.  If you would like to help with our aims in any way e.g. organising visits and/or speaker

Title: New for 2018 - IET Volunteer Core Values Awards

It's always good to recognise people for a job well done, especially when they give their services and time for free!

The IET relies on volunteers from around the world to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community. All our volunteers make an amazing contribution and it’s important to recognise the efforts of those special people who go the extra mile, week after week, so we are delighted to announce a new way to acknowledge their achievements.

Our Volunteer Core Values Awards programme recognises the contribution made by IET volunteers who consistently demonstrate our core values – integrity, excellence and teamwork – through their volunteering activities. So if a particular volunteer (or team of volunteers) has impressed you, please don’t keep it to yourself, because now is the time to take action!

Read more and nominate today [link to www.theiet.org/volunteers/active/talent-support/core-values-awards.cfm]

Nomination closing date: 30 June 2018

Our current Network Chairman is Dr Peter Minns

We also have a very active Retired Members’ section chaired by Roger Styring. Details of their activities will also be posted on these pages.
