The IET Manchester Network, Retired-Members Group

Two days visit event to North Wales Hydro Plants and Welsh Highland Ffestiniog Railway

Date: between early June to mid-July, to be confirmed.

The Manchester Retired Members Group are currently planning an engineering trip to North Wales to visit two hydro plants and an engineering visit to the Welsh Highland Ffestiniog railway workshops including a  20 mile ride on one of their Garret Locomotives. The visit will be over two days and will be possibly early June through to mid-July ... Dates, costings and details are currently being arranged and the visits will take place on a Friday & Saturday with limited places being available.

The Power plants are at Bethesda ( adjacent to the Zip Wire Centre )  100kW output mini-hydro site and the underground  Dinorwig Pumped Storage plant at Llanberis, 2GW output.

The Welsh Highland & Ffestiniog Railway workshops are based at Dinas ( near Caernarfon ) and Boston Lodge , PorthMadog

Transport and accommodation will not be provided but group lunches on both days can be included. Preference will be given to those who can attend both days but we will consider individual separate day visits if there are insufficient numbers for the two day visit.

If you're interested and would like to be kept up to date with the arrangements then please email,

Title: New for 2018 - IET Volunteer Core Values Awards

It's always good to recognise people for a job well done, especially when they give their services and time for free!

The IET relies on volunteers from around the world to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community. All our volunteers make an amazing contribution and it’s important to recognise the efforts of those special people who go the extra mile, week after week, so we are delighted to announce a new way to acknowledge their achievements.

Our Volunteer Core Values Awards programme recognises the contribution made by IET volunteers who consistently demonstrate our core values – integrity, excellence and teamwork – through their volunteering activities. So if a particular volunteer (or team of volunteers) has impressed you, please don’t keep it to yourself, because now is the time to take action!

Nomination closing date: 30 June 2018
