Highlights
As one of the IET’s geographical communities, the Solent network provides career development and networking opportunities for current and future engineers, alongside promoting science, engineering and technology more generally.
The Solent area has one of the largest concentrations of engineers and technicians in the UK. All levels of technical qualifications can be attained though three universities that offer degree courses accredited for Chartered Engineer status and a range of other colleges. Our industries are modern and diverse, fostering a thriving engineering community.
Most of our events are free to attend and are open to the public. We are of course keen to play our part in being the professional home for life for IET members, however we also aim to give due priority to:
- supporting early career professionals in our area
- engaging with engineering and technology students at local colleges and universities, and their parent institutions
- connecting with IET Schools Liaison Officers / STEM ambassadors in the area, to further help encourage young people to enter the profession
- providing events of interest to local engineering and technology businesses
In addition to the above, we have specific event programmes organised by our retired members section and for those based on the Isle of Wight.
The following Committee members are also happy to be contacted:
- Ian MacGillivray (Network Chair)
- Dean O'Brien (Events Coordination)
