We are delighted that Alastair Chisholm (Director of Policy at CIWEM) will be talking us through CIWEM’s policy position on microplastics. Alastair will discuss how microplastics are unintentionally lost to the environment from seven main sources, how more than half of these will remain on land, consider the need for a plastics strategy and the kind of approaches that may be needed to tackle the problem. CIWEM’s report ‘Addicted to Plastic’ can be found at

This will be followed by Rowan Byrne, asking the question Are there marine plastics solutions in many sectors? Rowan is a marine biologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and with over 21 years’ experience in environmental management and marine conservation. His main passion is environmental enhancement and leaving the environment in a better shape than when he found it. The aim of Rowan’s talk is not only to get people thinking on where solutions may lie, but also how connections can be made to bring the ideas to fruition by partnerships between big industry and science.

The lecture is at 8pm and is preceeded by an optional dinner. Ticket options are for with the lecture only or dinner and lecture.
