About the Seminar
Tai Kwun (former Central Police Station compound) is a 150-year-old historic compound located at the heart of Central, Hong Kong.  This unique and precious historic site has been transformed into a hub for arts, culture and enjoyment of people.  Tai Kwun has welcomed over 3.4 million visitors since its opening in May 2018.  16 nos. of historic buildings have been meticulously restored for adaptive re-use.  Two new iconic buildings with bespoke aluminium brick facade provide new spaces within the heritage fabric with international standard art galleries and multi-purpose theatre.

The highest standards of heritage conservation have been applied at Tai Kwun, with unfailing attention to authenticity and safety, bringing more than a dozen historic buildings to life.  The speaker will share experiences on the challenges faced by the team and solutions adopted from design to construction stage.

Tai Kwun won the Grand Awards for both Structural Excellence Award 2019 and Fire Engineering Excellence Award 2019 organised by the HKIE, and is shortlisted for the IStructE Structural Heritage Award, HKIA annual award, World Architecture Festival and Green Building Award.
