Big Data as one of the focused development areas in CE’s 2018 Policy Address, will definitely bring in additional energy and momentum to our society.  As a member of the engineering profession, how we could get prepared for the emerging challenges and opportunities in this vivid area.  Many new businesses have been set up based on the use of big data, e.g. flight tracking using shared open data stream is one of the most successful projects that would be used as an example to illustrate the benefits of using big data.  Google is a giant in Big Data and has numerous data science projects conducted all over the world, ECS has the honour to invite a Google Solutions Consultant to share the insights and tips for engineers to better equip with the knowledge and skill in data science.

Darren Chiu is currently a Technical Solutions Consultant in Google, with a focus on machine learning and data solutions for digital marketing.  Prior to Google, he worked in investment banking and online media industry as a software engineer.  Apart from technology, he has a strong passion for education and he is also one of co-founders of a STEM education start-up.  Stanley Lau is our former committee member in ECS and currently committee member in RTS and branch committee in IET Hong Kong.  He will also share with the participants on Big Data applications in flight tracking and local weather dashboard for local STEM education.
